Seoul, South Korea – Samsung revealed plans to launch the Galaxy Z Fold6 with a redesigned water drop hinge mechanism. The upgrade addresses common concerns about foldable devices, focusing on durability and visual appeal. The new hinge allows the screen to fold more smoothly, reducing the visible crease. This design also makes the device thinner compared to previous models.
The water drop hinge works by bending the screen inward in a curved shape. This method minimizes stress on the display materials. Samsung claims the hinge has been tested for over 200,000 folds, ensuring long-term reliability. The design change helps the phone close completely, leaving no gap between the halves. Dust and debris resistance is also improved.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 6.2-inch outer screen. Both panels use Dynamic AMOLED technology for sharp visuals. The device supports a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants.
Battery capacity remains at 4,400mAh, but faster charging speeds are expected. Camera specs include a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto shooter. Software improvements optimize multitasking for the foldable form factor.
Industry sources suggest the Galaxy Z Fold6 will launch around July 10, 2024. Pricing may start at $1,899, slightly higher than its predecessor. Analysts predict the hinge redesign could attract users hesitant about earlier foldable models.
Samsung’s mobile chief stated, “The Galaxy Z Fold6 represents our commitment to innovation. The water drop hinge is a breakthrough in foldable technology, balancing form and function.” Competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi are also developing similar hinge systems, but Samsung aims to stay ahead with this release.
