What is Sodium Silica used in
What is Sodium silicate?
Sodium silicateis commonly referred to as paohua kali, is an inorganic substance it's aqueous solution often referred to as sodium silicate which is a type of mineral adhesive. The chemical formula for it is Na2O*nSiO2. It is a soluble inorganic silicate with a broad range of uses. Soluble in water, sodium silicate is colorless and slightly colored translucent or transparent massive glass body. It's used as a filler, fabric fire retardant, and adhesive.
What is Sodium Silica used in?
Soaps and detergent
Silicate sodium has the capability to enhance surface effects, like wetting the surface with organic surfactants (reducing surface tension) which helps keep small oil particles or dirt at a safe distance from the detergent or even enhancing the power to clean dirt from the surface.
The calcium silicate's alkalinity allows it to neutralize acidic soil and encourage the emulsification of oil and the dispersion of protein.
Silicate sodium as a cardboard coating can improve the toughness of the cardboard as well as increase protection against water, fire, grease and pests. Silicate can also be used as an oil repellent on its own.
The sodium silicate could be utilized as a base for the application of auxiliary substances like paraffins, naphthalene chloride, wax, nitrocellulose and other coatings for cardboard. It helps to fill the pores on the cardboard and decreases the water absorption of paper, thus reducing the amount of topcoat needed.
Soluble silicate may be used as cement binder. When Portland is mixed with cement components, they will undergo chemical reactions to make substances with strong bonding properties. It can also be utilized to increase the strength of concrete.
Soluble Silicate is utilized for many mineral enrichment methods. The most important use of sodium silicate in flotation of ore serves as an antiflocculant to disperse unwanted siliceous substances. There is a very small amount silicate at a concentration similar to that used for cleaning operations is required. The capacity of silicate to form a sodium ion layer on the surface of particles is crucial in preparing the surface for separation. Silicate helps in the prevention of erosion, and thus reduce ball use in the mill.
Treatment of water
Dilute anionic Silica aqueous solutions that is produced by soluble silicate may reduce the risk of corrosion on a metal surfaces.
As an additive in water, dissolved SiO2 can prevent corrosion of storage tanks made of metal as well as distribution lines. It stops the corrosive effects of pumps and pipelines by acidic water (for instance, water from mine drainage) Also, it reduces the possibility of corrosion ball rod mill grinding; and lessens the chance of corrosion to machinery used in spray drying, agglomeration or dry detergent formulations and the metal components in disheswashing and laundry equipment. It is also a component in the liquid in the 'permanent' automotive cooling system. It is an ingredient in water treatment components in cooling towers and boilers.
